Working on the slack-server and member pages this weekend.

If you'd like a short description of yourself and/or your pages next to your member name,
send it to jimmy@xenius.org.

It will look like

your name: "A blank written by a blank, blanking blanker." (<---your description)

"Your Name" will be linked to your section of xenius. I would like to flesh out the site
this weekend. (Flesh out, not flush out. ) I know there are navigational problems, loading problems
and just not enough color. Suggestions are welcome.

I also have the option of creating error messages.
This means that when you go to www.xenius.org/doesnotexist.htm, you will get a message
that we created. If anyone would like to create an error message in html and send it to me, by all means
do so! There are a variety of errors you can write for.

I do technical support and quality assurance at work, and the best error I have ever seen in
our program was "Something is wrong."

I laughed until my sides split.

My cubby-mate's favorite is "Catastrophic Error", just before the program crashes.

Yes. Sadly, I am cubby fauna. Exquisite cubby fauna, if I may dare to say so myself, but
cubby fauna nonetheless.

ok, it's time for a true confession: i just figured out yesterday that there's an actual page where i can go read all these forum posts, not just read down below my edit window. ahem. YES, folks, there is hope for the elderly slacker. [out of petrifying fear of the pacman-meanies, i will refrain from grinning upon you.]

i downgraded my angelfire page a while ago, back to freebie status, and will have my son show me how to leave a pointer there to my xenius page. this is so great. but i managed to be polite in my comment to angelfire, saying not that they stink out loud, but that i had found a warm home among treasured friends. no, i didn't, i'm lying again. but the word 'friends' was used! now, i've had too much caffeine and will slink off, only to be ashamed of my loquacity later on....

The speck business, yes. what IS that all about?
Oh, it's just another nickname that I have. Josh calls me speck because I have a freckle in the iris of one of my eyes.

but since none of you know me as speck, I've changed identities once again to Giant Miss....

So hard to pin me down these days.

Hey, Agent C- I thought that perhaps you had secretly hidden a webcam in my apartment when describing the Slacker's Studio, but then I realized that although I do have a very messy apartment filled with cat toys and I do spend lots of time on the couch while wearing weird plaid plants and eating cheez-its or giant cheddar cheese goldfish crackers, that I don't have a tv and therefore can't watch cartoons. So I guess that's you then. No need to check the light fixtures for surveillance cameras....

Hey Giant Miss, I want to know what this 'speck' business is all about.

You caint fool us any more than you can fool the old ladies in Chinatown.

*voice of the cheesy Bravo announcer guy*

The camera pans across a very messy apartment filled with cat toys. Our subject is lying on the couch, wearing weird plaid pants, watching cartoons and eating cheez-its. Who is this slacker? We find out tonight... on Inside the Slacker's Studio.

I love it!

...meh! I lost my original post. seems that Blogger has some of the same tricks as we are accustomed to. Post first, then publish...

Sounds like fun, Jimmy. Now we need a question submitting spot, enough people submitting random questions, and then a randomizing interview question pulling program.

Wow. I just had an idea as I was talking to anagram about her art. I think I want to create some sort of randomizing interview where people can submit questions which may or may not be pulled up and then we can select some random member who is interviewed via email on these random issues of "whatever the hell" and we can then create a page for the interview. Like Inside the Actors Studio. Except for slackers.

Um.

Inside the Slacker's Studio.

I'm in the Pacific time zone, with only several million cars stuck in traffic between myself and the Pacific Ocean itself.

I've decided to leave my name as it is. But y'all can still call me anagram if you fancy. I'll leave it up to you.

Ack, I have so much studying to do. I won't be around as much until Friday, but even as I say that I know it's not true. You know how addicitons go, eh?

Ah, the internet.

hi, mary! i'm in maryland, but i'm used to pacific timestamps on journal posts, so that wouldn't bother me at all, if it's more convenient for the majority. i'm always confused anyway! [g]

So, how many of you are in the Pacific time zone? Practically everybody except me & Jeffron, huh? (and X-W, we miss you!) I could be persuaded to change the time stamps on the posts to Pacific, if you ask sweetly enough. Candy is good, too.

The archives are as fixed as they're gonna get, until the blog-powers-that-be correct a certain technical difficulty. I just can't get the page for last week (through Saturday) to publish. The permanent links next to the posts (on the time stamp) are correct, but they don't go anywhere. Do not adjust your sets.

I promise, one of these days, I will drop the boring blogger-czarina posts and resume my usual charming personality. (heh!)

hey Jeff, maybe there isn't a 'settings' thingy in "edit your blog," since you're not an admin on this blog. *insert d'oh! here* I'll try to figure something out. If there were a settings thingy, it would be right in the top bar, with a little graphic next to it that looks like a piece of notepaper. Real good directions, huh?

Slack just is. It's the art of doing what makes you happy. Preferably on somebody else's time. (at work, when you're supposed to be doing housework, etc.) If you are here at all, you know all about slack. Om. (Where did I put my cheez doodles?)

Frig, it's after 8:30, and I told myself I absolutely had to be off the computer by now. If you have any blogging crises that you don't want to post about, send me an email and I will try to help you figure them out. ciao bubble!

this is fun, watching everyone show up and trying to match the names to the nicknames. hope i have it all figured out. i mean, i'm vicki, right? are there others? the thought of me being the grand poobah of anything at all sort of leaves me slack-jawed. i'm still not sure i know what 'slack' means otherwise. :D .... oh no, a smiley. jimmy will sic the pacman-meanie on it, and carnage will ensue. i am going to shield my eyes now.

Welcome Anna!! Glad you made it over. Isn't this splendid?

Welcome Vicki!! I think you officially get the Coolest Newbie
Since Mad_English_Woman Award. Really, diving into this, er,
endeavor in the true tcint spirit bodes well for your future. Someday,
you may be a Grand Poobah of Slack.

Okay, I have to stop, before I'm mistaken for one of those subgenius
whackos. Fucking John Travolota and his rabid cult.

Anyhow, there is no 'settings' setting on my 'edit your blog' page. I've looked on
both sides. Maybe it is on another page?

Thank you :) You'd think I was doing this solely for the ego-boosting effects, but no!

I'm trying to get the archive to work now. It's not cooperating. When it does, it will be here. Blergh!

Well, they work now, but the links still aren't updating like they should be... that's why this says "beta" in huge letters across the top of the screen, heh...

All right, it's all been fooled into working now. I guess I didn't archive fast enough to get the posts from before Sunday. Wah. I'll save them in "real life" though.

yeah! I made it!!! I feel like we were all cast out to distant parts of the globe, given cryptic maps and small change with which to find our way to a new safe home. but now we're here!! thank god. whew.

The threat of advertising is but a distant memory...

no more spy cams and weight loss ads with anorexic models.

and no firewall to prevent me from posting...
woo hoo!!

good work coop!

and now I have the opportunity to recreate myself with a new identity. the witness protection program for dehlikuz. I can deny all earlier postings to the chair...

I've been fooling around with the template again - mostly text color refinements. I also found a way to shut off underlining on links using CSS. Let me know if you like it, I find it aesthetically pleasing.

Meanies, eh? I'll show you meanies... *g* (no, really, I'm sure I can restrain myself)

Smileys are cute, but I bet they're tastier.

If you guys use them, I reserve the right to create my own smiley eating "meanies". Then the smiley wars would begin. The terrible, terrible smiley wars of 2002-2003. The wars future generations will talk about. The reason why kids of the future will be sent to their rooms because they used the word "smiley" at the dinner table, sending grampa into a schizophrenic rage during which he exhausts himself at the keyboard, frantically hitting the delete key until he falls asleep.
"Damn smileys!! I'l delete every last one of ya! Ha ahA HA haha!!"
The meanie dictator will rule with an iron fist, causing hundreds of thousands of smileys to emmigrate and eventually become nobel prize winning scientist smileys who develop weapons, code cracking mathematics and foreign policies that ultimately derail the meanies and-hey!!! What the??

I don't like where this is going. My meanies are losing already, damnit.

Hm. New plan.

Heigh-ho, slack fans. I installed the "links open new windows" checkbox at the bottom of the page, down by the Blogger logo. If you want links to open in separate windows, check it. If you don't, uncheck it. This way you can set it the way you want, change it whenever you feel like, and not bother me about it at all. Heh.

Thank you! I'm glad you like it, Vicki! I'm looking forward to the first poem or something that somebody posts, because we'll never have to worry about the line breaks again. You can use any variety of standard HTML in your posts. You could even use smileys if you wanted to, but I have a feeling the chairites might riot if you did so.

Bwa ha ha!

We should probably chat about an "image policy" for the forum, if we want one. I personally have no problem with people posting images, as long as they are not too huge & a hindrance to those of us using dialup connections. Or if anyone goes homicidal when they see an animated smiley, for example. I don't want any blood on my hands. (then again, I'm probably the only one in the xenius collective who has ever contemplated the use of animated smileys!)

I may write a little "how-to" window for the forum, (you'd have to click to pop it up, it would be voluntary) talking about Blogger tricks & stuff, if anyone's interested.

That's enough of the administrative yack for now. Keep signing up!
